I Told My Students I’m Leaving

“Guys, I have an announcement. This all happened very last minute and wasn’t at all expected, but I wanted you to hear it from me. I am not going to be here next year. I had planned on being here. I had already started thinking about what shows we would do. I had already started picking dates and organizing events. I had every intention of being here, but that isn’t a possibility now.

The school let me know that if I wanted to come back, I would be coming back as the Technical Director. You all deserve a much better Technical Director than what I am capable of giving you. You deserve someone who knows how to do that job. You deserve the best. I am leaving so the school can find you all someone who is worthy of you.

I am trying my hardest to make sure everything is as ready and set as I can for you. I have all of the new members’ induction information in the system so that all your new director has to do is click OK. I have the club information all set up. I am leaving them information about our state convention so you guys won’t miss out on that. I have even told the school that I am more than happy to be put in communication with the new director in case they have any questions.

I am doing everything possible to make sure that you guys succeed because you deserve to succeed. You are all so amazing and I have loved being a part of your journeys these past three years. Please believe that.

While I understand that you are upset, please do not take this out on the new teachers. They had nothing to do with this. Give them a chance. As a teacher who came into a program where the students were very vocal about missing their predecessor, I can tell you that it hurts a lot. Please give the new directors your all because they will definitely do the same for you.

I am going to miss you guys so much. Thank you for letting me be a part of your education. I love you guys.”
